About Me

I'm Kyle Messer — a cybersecurity professional based in Melbourne, FL with over five years of hands-on experience protecting highly regulated government environments. My career has been built supporting Department of State contractors, where I've worked across the full security operations stack: from vulnerability management and SIEM monitoring to incident response, compliance auditing, and endpoint security.

What drives me is the problem-solving nature of security work — every alert is a puzzle, every vulnerability a risk to be understood and neutralized before it becomes something worse. I hold a Secret clearance and have spent years operating in environments where precision, discretion, and sound judgment aren't optional — they're the job.

Outside of security operations, I'm actively expanding my offensive security skills through TryHackMe and Hack The Box, and exploring the emerging field of AI security through prompt injection research with Lakera. I'm also pursuing my B.S. in Cybersecurity & Information Assurance at Western Governors University, with Network+ and CySA+ on deck.

Before pivoting into cybersecurity, I spent time in aerospace manufacturing, utility operations, and even Walt Disney World — roles that sharpened my attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and communication skills across every level of an organization. That range of experience gives me a perspective most pure-tech professionals don't have.

When I'm not deep in security work, I'm teaching my kids Python and Arduino — passing on the same curiosity about how things work that led me here in the first place.

  • Assisted in security awareness training initiatives, conducting internal phishing simulations and targeted employee education to strengthen the human layer of defense.
  • Monitored and analyzed security alerts, system logs, and network activity to proactively detect and mitigate threats across the environment.
  • Developed security reports and recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear risk communication and compliance tracking.
  • Documented security gaps, remediation plans, and compliance efforts, maintaining accurate records for internal audits and executive reporting.

Cyber Security Analyst / IT Service Desk

2020 — 2025

Tsymmetry — Department of State Contractor

Melbourne, FL

  • Supported the same DoS contract as a Cyber Security Analyst — investigating alerts, supporting incident response, and performing forensic triage to minimize risk exposure.
  • Conducted risk assessments and security audits to validate security controls, track remediation progress, and ensure adherence to NIST, RMF, and regulatory standards.
  • Managed user access privileges and permissions, ensuring adherence to least-privilege security policies and minimizing unauthorized access risks via Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Assisted in implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions across user accounts, significantly strengthening identity security posture.
  • Created user-friendly security guides and documentation to improve cybersecurity awareness and best practices across teams.
  • Prepared and presented security-related reports to management, highlighting key risks, trends, and actionable remediation recommendations.
